Silence Makes Scripture Live

Can you be quiet for a few minutes? We don't like to have much silence in our lives. We buy ipods, cd players, radios, TVs and read all kinds of literature to avoid having to be quiet.

Silence will aid you in making Scripture alive. What I mean is taking a few moments after your daily reading to just be quiet and contemplate and listen again to what the passages say. It is in those moments of deep concentration that you will find the depth and richness of Scripture.

In most relationships of life more is learned by quietly listening and focusing in on what others say. If we stop planning our response or trying to decide what we can say next we can really hear what is being said. This is often true with our daily conversations with God. Let the Scriptures speak and say what God has meant them to say.

This takes practice but will pay wonderful rewards when you learn to be quiet.
